5 New Unique Hair Growth Methods & tips

YES YOU CAN GROW YOUR HAIR LONGER AND STRONGER!

1.  Scalp Brushing
Scalp brushing gives you deep follicle stimulation. Using a small medium bristle brush over your scalp will exfoliate your scalp and provide deep root stimulation to your hair follicles. This can be done 3 times a week. Works best as a pre poo treatment before your shampoo. Better stimulation than scalp massages.

2. Aloe vera scalp serum
Create a serum of fresh aloe vera gel. Straight from the plant is the best option for this technique. Aloe vera, cleanses, refreshes, soothes and nourishes the hair follicles. Cleaning out the hair follicles and fertilizing them will create a PH balanced scalp optimal for hair growth.

3. Deep root cleansing
You would  be surprised how your scalp looks under a microscope.  Many times your slow hair growth is due to clogged or partially clogged hair follicles. Especially if you do lots of co washes or do not wash your hair weekly with a shampoo. If your hair growth appears to be slow do not be so quick to think it is genetics. It could be bad hair habits of not washing it enough. If you have not deep cleansed your hair in a few months, do a series of deep shampoos twice a week for 3 shampoos. Deep cleansers are normally stronger than regular cleansers, so be sure to deep condition well after you deep cleanse.

How to reduce heat damage when straightening your Afro hair.

Heat straightening, dehydrated hair is one of the top reasons, naturals get heat damage. Never ever straighten your hair, if you are having frequent dry hair issues. Consistently dry hair is vulnerable to damage. Hydrate and condition your hair 3 weeks prior to flat ironing or pressing your hair. Simply deep conditioning your hair the day before you plan to heat straighten is not enough protection.

There is always a risk of  heat damage, when you chose to flat iron or press your hair. Your chances increase when you receive a professional flat iron or straightening. Why? Because the higher the heat the more likely the damage. Professional heat tools are more effective but also harsher on the hair. The stylist's job is to get your hair straight and give you a style which will last a week or more. Remember this when you decide to get a professional straightening.

What about heat protectants?
You should invest in a silicone based heat protectant. When  using harsh heat on your hair, that is not the time to use natural  heat protectants. You want to use a product that will give you the most protection. Silicones stick to the hair and help to protect the hair during the heat straightening.

How to tell if your hair is hydrated

Your hair can be moisturized with product but still not have healthy hydration. Finding the right product to give your hair moisture is only half of the hydration battle. The goal to healthy hair is getting your hair to receive and hold moisture for long periods.

3 things determine how well your hair holds moisture:

  • How often you cleanse and condition your hair
  • How healthy your hair cuticle is (porosity)
  • The quality of products you use

How do I know if my hair is hydrated?

  • Your hair stays soft, stretches without breaking.
  • Hair holds moisture for 3 days.
  • Absence of single strand knots.
  • You can separate your hair with no webbing.
  • Your hair styles better.
  • You have better coil definition.
  • You have lots of shrinkage.

How to get hydrated hair?

  • Eliminate all products with harsh ingredients.
  • Replace them with products as close to natural as possible.
  • Follow a good  regimen, such as the CoilyQueens Regimen.
  • A good regimen must include frequent cleansing and conditioning.
  • Do not use harsh heat. (flat irons, pressings etc.)
  • Stay away from covering your hair in fake hair for at least 1 year after beginning a regimen.
  • Be consistent, expect gradual improvements each week.
  • Be patient it can take 6 months or more for healthy hydration.

Make the above statements apply to your hair and regimen.

Do not use products that contain these alcohols.

Denatured
SD alcohol 40
Witch hazel
Isopropanol
Ethanol
SD
Propanol
Propyl

HOW DO I BEGIN MY HYDRATION JOURNEY?
Now you have an understanding of how hydrated hair performs. Start with the dry hair checklist. Make corrections according to the do's and don'ts listed.  Eliminate all products with not so natural ingredients in them.  Having a healthy head of hair can take 6 months to a year of being consistent. It all depends on the condition of your hair, when you begin. You will see the best results starting with natural hair at the TWA stage. Your hair is new and easier to hydrate. So when you are expecting results remember where you started. If you have damaged ends go ahead and cut them now. Do not waste anymore time holding onto those ugly ends just to maintain a certain length. You will be glad you did and it will grow back faster.

3 mistakes that are damaging your natural hair

1. USING A HAIR PICK
Many naturals use a pick to fill in the gaps of their twist out style. They will pick the roots to fill in the lines and make the hair look fuller. Doing so causes breakage mid shaft and eventually your hair will look thinner.

SOLUTION:
When you set your twists, make your sections smaller. Untwist your hair and allow your parts to disappear on their own. When you untwist your hair,  walk around, put on your makeup and give your hair time to swell naturally on its own, Only use your fingers to fill in the gaps gently, no type of pics or tools.

2.  USING BAD INGREDIENTS
If you frequent hair forums, youtube or hair groups, you will see some naturals rave about, aussie moist conditioner, hello hydration, tresemme and V05. Some naturals use these products for cleansing and conditioning. These products are usually full of bad ingredients. Those ingredients will instantly soften the hair and make it feel healthy. But repeated use of those ingredients will dry the hair out and slow your hair growth. The temporary instant benefits are not worth the long term bad affects.

SOLUTION:
Stay away from products that contain these cheap ingredients. Invest in products which contain more natural extracts, oils and butters. Look for natural ingredients, that you can easily pronounce. These products will nourish the hair and not slow your hair growth.

3.  RELYING TO MUCH ON FAKE HAIR
Crochet braids, weaves and extension braids are okay in moderation. Some naturals hid behind fake hair by calling it protective styling. The fake hair used is made of a type of plastic. As this plastic sits on top of the hair, it dries the hair out. When the extensions are removed the hair breaks and shed excessively from the chronic dryness. So while your hair grew, you lose all that length from excess shedding and breakage.

SOLUTION
Stop relying on fake hair so much. Style and grow your real hair. Follow a healthy hair care regimen for the first few years naturals. This gives you time to get to know and style your hair well. Once your hair is hydrated and healthy then you can get extensions in moderation.
