How to know if your Shea butter is of good quality

Melts  and spreads easily
When you put it on your hands it melts quickly. Although lots of people love to whip their Shea butter, it is not necessary to whip it in order to use it. If your Shea butter does not melt or spread easily then it is not pure Shea butter. In the states a lot of the Shea butter is mixed with other butters. Pay attention to the label when you are choosing your products. I have seen Shea butter labeled as "African butter" this means you are not getting 100% Shea butter. You are purchasing other cheaper African butters, which may still be good, but very misleading. You deserve to have what you thought you were paying for.

Shea butter is full of  vitamins A & E, proteins, minerals and fatty acids. Shea butter is an excellent emollient and it helps to keep moisture from leaving your skin and hair. It is breathable, protects the hair and is a great detangler. Shea butter prevent wrinkles, anti inflammatory and protects the skin from UV aggressors. But you only receive these benefits from good quality grade A Shea butter.

Stay away from the golden yellow Shea butter or pure white Shea butter.
I have purchased Shea butter since the 80's and it was always a cream, off white color, or pale yellow in color. When you come across that bright yellow Shea butter it has been mixed with something to brighten the color. Some makers think that the golden yellow color makes it more appealing to the consumer. Just understand that butter is most likely not pure. If it is white or bright yellow it is mostly refined Shea butter. Refined Shea butter has gone through an intense heat process and will contain solvent residues. It is many times odorless and has other chemicals in it to prolong the shelf life.

Purchase unrefined, grade A Shea butter
Unrefined means it has not been treated with high heat. Heat destroys many of the plant nutrients. Shea butter is a food first, so it feeds the hair roots awesome nutrients, which help to keep your hair healthy. But when you purchase the refined butter you will not get all those nutrient benefits. You will still have the lubricant benefits of the butter but that is all.

Shea butter greatly benefits those with Afro curly coily hair. But invest in a good quality butter to reap the benefits. If Shea Butter has not wowed you then most likely you have never used a good quality rich Shea Butter.

Supporting black owned beauty brands and hair sites on your natural hair journey

The median salary for black in the USA is lower than any other group. According to an article by Yahoo News the median wealth for whites is $142,000 compared to $11,000 for blacks. Yahoo News

Knowing this  you should understand how important it is that we support black owned hair businesses, black beauty brands, black youtubbers and black owned hair care websites. Yet we are promoting, sometimes unknowingly, websites which feature black hair yet they are not black owned.

Surely on your Afro hair journey you would want to give your most support to those brands which put your hair and beauty first, not second. Some of you would be surprised at the brands we promote that are not black owned. It does not make sense $$$ to popularize non black owned hair sites and dismiss your hard working black sisters hair site. No other groups does this besides us.

It is your black sister who has helped you the most on this natural hair journey, so let her know you appreciate that help. Let's support and uplift black owned brands and websites more than we currently are doing.

Sites you often frequent and promote that are not black owned.

Naturallycurly.com is a popular shared website that is NOT black owned.

THE CURLY GIRL METHOD BOOK WAS NOT WRITTEN FOR AFRO CURLY HAIR.

HELP my hair is a tangled mess!!!

PROBLEM:
You just shampooed and deep conditioned your hair. However after you rinsed out the deep conditioner you feel your hair knot and tangle up. Every time you run your fingers through your hair you feel massive tangles and  mats. What did I do wrong? How do I fix this awful mess???

First consider this, people have combed out matured locks. If  locked hair can be combed out then your tangles are easy to remove if you are completely natural.

Now calm yourself by taking a few long deep breathes and do not fret.  Worry will only make you anxious, and grab the scissors.  Cover hair with a plastic cap and go make you a cup of green tea with lemon.

Sip some green tea to relax your nerves.
Drinking 3 cups of green tea daily will treat hormonal hair loss.

SOLUTION:
Allow medium temp water to run over hair for one full minute, as you run your fingers through it removing tangles. Separate hair into 4 or more sections. Saturate each section with some CQR-Super Detangler. Gently remove tangles from each section retwist and cover hair with plastic cap for at least one hour or more if time permits.

 CQR-Super Detangler
Supplies needed:
8 ounce water spray bottle
1/3 cup vegetable glycerin (moisture and slip)
7 ounces distilled or filtered water
1/4 cup grape seed oil (detangler)
2 tbsp jojoba oil (strength and detangler)
SHAKE WELL BEFORE EACH USE

FINGERS ONLY!
Remove plastic cap and gently with patience, remove tangles, using fingers only. Work in small sections and do not become frustrated. Frustration will make it take longer and cause breakage. You should notice the CQR-Super Detangler melting your tangles. Spray hair again if it dries out before you complete your whole head.

Fingers only! No combs or brushes!

When all tangles are removed, apply your leave in conditioner. You do not have to rinse out the CQR-Super Detangler.

7 tips for growing your hair long

My everyday soft hold twist out

Set a length goal.
Never work a goal without a plan. Your plan should be simple and honest. Never plan below what you desire to truly achieve. Once you have your goal then create your plan on how you will go about achieving this goal.

Find a good hair care regimen that suits your lifestyle
Decide on a hair care regimen that will help you achieve your length goals. When choosing a regimen consider your present lifestyle and how much time you will need to set aside for this plan. A good hair care regimen covers 3 areas well, moisture, stimulation and protection. The Coily Queens Regimen covers these three areas very well. The CQR helps you achieve your hair length goals the fastest. Your hair will grow long and healthy with dedication to the CQR.

MORE INFORMATION ON THE COILYQUEENS REGIMEN HERE

Keep a hair journal
Always have a written plan and records of your daily achievements. Write your goals out so you can see them. Know your starting length so you can track your progress. Progress fuels your motivation.

Stay loyal to your regimen

A double minded person never achieves much of anything. Once you commit to a hair care regimen stay loyal to it, as long as it is working. It usually takes months to see big results from any hair regimen. Certainly when you are going for long lengths it take 3 to 6 months to see length accumulation. To many people switch regimens simply because something else sounds good. That is an premature move. Stay loyal to your decision.

Enjoy your hair
Yes you can grow your hair without using fake hair. If you want to use fake hair that is an option for you but it is not a requirement. Enjoy your hair. We are always more successful when we are happy. Rocking your own hair makes you happy. Create a style plan. Designate specific days to let your hair down and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Don't be distracted by other regimens

Once you decide on a hair care regimen, it is good to take a break from hair forums, hair groups and website. Take a break so you are not distracted from other regimens which sound good and tempt you to try them instead of the one you have decided on. Having to many choices many times makes you doubt your first choice. Make a decision, have faith in your choice and work your regimen.

When you reach your goal sit back, cruise and maintain your length.

Light press 2011

Maintain your length by following a good hair care regimen such as the Coily Queens Regimen. You will not retain length without a good hair care regimen. Sometimes the retaining can be more difficult than the growing. Have fun and enjoy your hair. But practice correct styling methods and product usage. The Coily Queens Regimen gives you all the information you need on buying the right products and minimizing breakage. Start it today. Click the link up top for the full Coily Queens Method.
long term and short term goals. Once you have reached your goal, create a new one.Set a plan to maintain your length, do not abandon your regimen just because you have attained your goal.

Red Palm Oil and Afro hair care.

Oil therapy is practiced with the Coily Queens Regimen.

What is Oil Therapy?
Carefully selecting specific natural high quality oils for your hair type and hair issue. Massaging those oils onto your scalp for 10 minutes daily. Being sure your hair strands are  lubricated daily with the right high quality oils. Done correctly, it will eliminate your single strand knots, greatly reduce tangles and increase your hair growth rate.

Red Palm Oil is a new addition to the Coily Queens Regimen.

Check out the amazing benefits this oil provides for your hair.

FIND RED PALM OIL HERE

I started using red palm oil last year. I purchased my jar from a high end grocery store; it was an impulse buy. My palm oil is unrefined, organic and comes in a dark glass jar. Red palm oil is full of vitamins A and E, and is knows as a super food. When purchasing any type of organic oil, you need to use it consistently. Organic oils are made to be used and not  stored. Even though I used it 3 times a week,my jar expired before I was half way finished. Check your expiration dates before you pay for it. Red palm oil is very rich  and a little goes a long way.

Red palm oil is great to use right after your shampoo regimen, because it locks in moisture so well. Consistent use will reverse your gray hair and correct  hair loss.  Red palm oil is full of carotene and lycopene and this prevents your hair from becoming weak or brittle. Full of saturated fats and lipids makes it a perfect moisturizer for the hair and skin.

PROS:
Super hair growth
Decreases your gray hair
Prevents hair loss
Strengthens hair
Revitalizes your skin and prevents wrinkles
Contains a high amount of vitamins A and E, more than any other plant oil.
Great replacement for coconut oil
Less than $1 per ounce, great price!
BUY HERE!

CONS:
This oil is a bright orange color. Some people feel the oil is messy and stains. Personally I do not find the oil messy. I always wear a scarf if I use it at bedtime. As with all oils I measure out my oil, instead of just eyeballing it. I use the finger dip method instead of pouring it from a applicator bottle. Taking these measures ensures that you do not over oil your hair. It does not stain my clothes, pillows or furniture.
