Hair color can be beautiful, but it also requires extra work on your part Adding any type of color to your hair whether it is natural henna or permanent color automatically puts your hair in a state of chronic dryness. Dry hair, which remains dry on a consistent basis will surely lead to broken damaged hair.

COLOR WITH CAUTION!

There are a wide range of chemicals on the market which will add color to your hair. Whether you choose henna, temporary color or permanent color, all of these processes leaves deposits on the hair. When deposits are left on the hair, it makes the hair harder to receive and retain moisture. Henna uses crushed plants to color the hair shaft other natural colors may use black walnut  or other naturally grown plants. Just because it is natural does not mean it is less harmful. Natural products contain pigments which coat the hair, this requires you to work harder to retain moisture. Most natural colorants do not destroy the hair shaft or penetrate to the cortex.

However most permanent hair colors do destroy some of the hair shaft, by  following a two step process. This consist of a bleaching agent which destroys part of your hair strands to remove your natural color, then it deposits your desire color into your hair strands.  While most semi-permanent colors and temporary colors only coat the hair cuticle, the permanent color penetrates to the cortex. The bleach or ammonia lifts the hair cuticle to allow the color to penetrate deep. Once the process is over this leaves your hair very vulnerable and weak.  Even if your hair looks great do not take that for granted, it can start to break at anytime. Once you add color you now need to treat your hair as damaged hair. Because this is exactly what it is, damaged.

Step one: CHANGE YOUR MINDSET

  • Understand that color treated hair is vulnerable hair and should be treated more delicately than your natural, non chemically treated hair.


  • Understand that your color treated hair now requires more work than your natural hair.


  • Understand you are no longer natural, you have changed the game by adding color. 


  • Do not spend time arguing as to whether you are still natural or not, use that time to take extra care of your hair. How you care for your hair is more important than a title.

Step two:  QUALIFY.  Are you a good candidate for hair color?

  • Are you a lazy natural?

  • Are you slack with your hair care regimen?

  • Do you only like to wash your hair once every two weeks?

  • Do you suffer from dry hair issues on a consistent basis?

  • Is your hair breaking?

  • Are you trying to grow your hair to waist length and beyond?

Stop deceiving yourself  that it is "just hair" when you know that you frequent blogs and forums looking for a solution to your hair issue.  So it is not "just hair" and that is okay. A woman's hair is her crowning glory.  Now is the time to empty out your negative storage tank so you can receive this powerful burst of potent energy we are being blessed with.  Empty out and detox both your mental and physical storage. Releasing negative thoughts and beliefs that hold you back are not hard to do, just acknowledge that you have the negative thoughts and then denounce the negative thoughts or beliefs. How to correct rough puffy hair ends and knots


Does your hair form knots no matter what product your try?

Do you spend time untangling your hair, only for tangles to reform within minutes upon finishing?

Do your ends always feel rough?
Are your ends puffy when you braid or twist your hair?

Are you plagued by bothersome single strand knots?


If you answered yes to any of these questions this article will help you solve your problem.


Common complaint:
My hair forms knots if I just look at it. I wash my hair, deep condition it and keep it twisted, but still my hair forms knots when I remove the twists. Even when I press my hair using various methods my ends stay puffy and hard. What is wrong with my hair?



Should I get a trim?
Not so fast, trimming your hair may not solve your problem. Before you proceed to cut off unnecessary length, do a test patch.  Take a 1/2 of an inch section of your hair and cut it below the frizz line. Cut from the section right by your earlobe on the corners, at the top of the sideburns area.  Examine whether the hair still forms knots or puffiness after you have cut below the frizz line. If after your test cut your hair still knots up then you know you suffer from a hair cuticle issue that will not be solved by a trim.

What is a hair cuticle issue?
Your hair cuticle is the outer layer of your hair, which is  made of scales and several layers. The hair cuticle raises and flattens depending upon the weather, products and health of the hair. A healthy hair cuticle opens when it should and flattens when it should. When the hair cuticle becomes unhealthy it stays open, this is called a raised hair cuticle or highly porous. You do not want your hair cuticle to stay raised because it loses moisture quickly. A raise hair cuticle is also frizzy, tangled and full of knots.


Repairing the hair cuticle:
If the damage is not deep into the hair cuticle layers, it can be corrected. Using the right PH balanced solution will help the hair cuticle to lay flat and hold moisture. The better hydrated your hair is the less tangles and single strand knots you will have. Applying a simple apple cider organic vinegar rinse  over your hair,  after you rinse out your deep conditioner, will correct a raised cuticle issue. 


Correcting your raised hair cuticle problem
Step one: Do a trim patch test as listed above. If your hair still forms knots then proceed to step two. If the cut patch test shows your hair no longer knotting then proceed with giving your entire head a good trim or visit your stylist for a trim. 

Step two: Wash your hair with one of the following:  a non sulfate shampoo, conditioning cleanser or mud wash. Deep condition your hair using heat by sitting under the dryer. Rinse the deep conditioner out with cold water. Leave on for 3 minutes, then rinse out with cool water. While hair is still soaking wet, apply your leave in conditioner and style. 

You should see a good reduction in knots and puffy ends. If you somehow do not then wait at least 3 days. But this time you can try the ACV treat. After you rinse out your deep conditioner, while hair is still soaking wet pour the ACV treat mix over your hair, saturating all of your hair and scalp. While hair still has the ACV treat in it, apply your leave in conditioner. Blot with a towel and proceed with your styling. 

When doing the ACV treat, if you are using a creamy leave in conditioner that masque the scent of the apple cider vinegar. You will also notice that it takes your hair a really long time to dry when doing the ACV treat. Keep that in mind when styling. You should only have to do the ACV treat once. Then you can continue to do the ACV rinse once a week or once a month. 

The apple cider vinegar rinse/treat
Purchase organic only
1/4 cup of organic apple cider vinegar
2 cups of filtered or bottle water

Makes the hair cuticle lay flat
Gives the hair shine.

AVOCADO OIL is the best for frizzy ends. Smooth over strands after you apply your leave in  conditioner and styler. Purchase pure, virgin, unrefined avocado oil. This is the best and what I use. 

The apple cider vinegar will make the hair cuticle lay flat therefore keeping your hair from forming knots. You should notice an immediate significant reduction in tangles and knots. In most cases the ACV rinse eliminates all knots. You can repeat the ACV rinse again in 3 days. For even better results complete the 18 day hydration & lubrication regimen for excessive tangles.

If the ACV rinse does not correct your puffy ends or knots issue, then proceed with the 18 day hydration & lubrication regimen. If your hair is still forming knots and puffy ends, then you could have some deep hair cuticle damage. You can learn to work with it or do a big chop and start over.

Shampooing tightly coily Afro hair





Cleansing your hair is an extremely important part of any hair care regimen. Within the context of the Coily Queens Regimen it falls under the category of moisture. When you cleanse the hair correctly it does not strip the hair but hydrates the hair. Daily your hair accumulates:  sweat, excess sebum, product buildup, dirt and more, for these reasons you should have a frequent cleansing routine. Cleansing helps to hydrate and refresh the hair. Key things to look for in a cleanser:
Use an actual product meant for cleansing the hair. Conditioner is not formulated to cleanse the hair.
Absolutely no sulfates
Absolutely no alcohols
Look for labels with the least long words that you cannot pronounce. 
Looks for the word moisturizing on the bottle
Choose a cleanser that is PH balanced between 5 and 8
Do not exceed a PH of 8

The only way to know the PH of your cleanser is to test it yourself using PH balance strips. These are the PH strips I use. PH balance strips are very helpful on your hair care journey. Small investment with a huge payoff.

Start your shampoo on hair that has been untangled and is knot free. If you are transitioning or dealing with lots of tangling issues it would be wise to shampoo your hair in medium to large twists.

Step one:
Allow medium to hot water to run over your hair saturating your hair really well. Use your fingers to pull residue from your hair. Smooth from your scalp down your strands gently. Do this process for 2 minutes.

Step two: 
Apply a quarter size amount of shampoo to your hair starting at the scalp then smooth gently down the hair strands. Depending upon your cleanser how much you use will vary.  After you have massaged the shampoo through your hair, rinse with medium or hot water.

The first wash is to remove any residue from the hair. 

Step three:
Lather on more shampoo or your cleanser and repeat. Always rinse off  your cleanser using medium or hot water. Higher temperature water makes your hair cuticle open wider to receive the moisturizing benefits of your conditioner.

You will notice after your second lather that your curls begin to pop. Your curls feel more alive and defined. Pay close attention to how your hair feels with this two lather process when you try it.

The 40-day New Moon trim challenge

Do you know that if you trim your hair during the new moon waxing phase, that it will make your hair grow back 2 to 3 times faster? Yes, the moon can have a major impact on hair growth!  The concept of cutting your hair to stimulate growth is a concept that does not make sense to some of you reading this, however in life not everything will make sense to you.  It does not have to make sense in order for it to work.  You cannot lean to your own understanding, sometimes just accept and believe by faith that a thing is true and that it will work for you. The concept of using the moon phases to create increase is not a new one, since biblical times man has used the moon to tell them when to plant, trim and fertilize crops. The same concept which farmers use to reap a bountiful harvest can also be applied to increase hair growth and thickness.

My experience with New Moon trimming

I started doing new moon energy trimming last year. I did my first new moon trim,  August 17th, 2013. I cut two inches from my bangs, and in 35 days my hair grew 1 and 3/4 inch. In only 35 days my hair grew back almost all of what I  cut off. Amazing!  How much increase one receives will vary, but if you do it on the right days, you will certainly receive increase above your normal rate of hair growth.

Do I have to trim during every New Moon each month?
 
No, you can do it one time, and that is just as effective. I believe you can get results up to 6 months after your trim. I did! Remember in order to know if your growth rate has increased you must know what your normal rate of growth.  The only way to know for sure is to try it and keep an accurate record of your growth increase, every 40 days.  For accuracy it helps to measure in the same area each time and also keep the hair in the same condition each time you measure. If you did your first measurements on stretched hair then remember to stretch your hair when you do your follow up measurements after 40 days. Accuracy is key!

Simply trim your hair during the right days of each month and you will receive more growth increase than what you trimmed. Trimming your ends is essential to healthy hair. You should trim your hair 3 times a year, this would be during every 4th month. If your trim schedule begins in January, then you will cut your ends in April, August and December. Whichever month you start just count up towards every 4th month. Then find the best days to cut your hair within that month.


How do I pick my New Moon Growth dates?

If you do a search you will find several sources giving out new moon dates for hair growth increase, and you will see that each sources dates vary slightly. I know my dates work. I pick my dates by using the Lunar calendar, to see the phases of the moon within the current month. You do not simply cut during the New Moon phase but it has to be on the right New Moon date. My dates work because I  rely on Spiritual discernment from the Holy Spirit in picking the days, I refer to you. Whether you are a Believer or not, I know to whom I consult with, and I have done so since the first time I recall trying this method. To pray about it seemed natural. Through prayer and meditation I am given the best days and so I share them with whomever is willing to receive them, take advantage of this information now, it will get to the point in which I only share my dates with my subscribers.
