New Moon trim day!

Use the energy of the moon to assist your hair growth! Every 30 days or so, we get a new moon. The moon has different levels of energy as it is growing into a Full Moon. The moon controls the ocean tides, plants and more! We can also use this energy to influence our hair growth.

IS YOUR HAIR DUE FOR A TRIM?
You should have a regular trim schedule. Trim every 4 months. That will give you 3 trims a day. This is great for maintaining healthy hair. So when it is due for your trim. Why not try a New Moon trim?

Easy way to trim your own hair
Part hair down the middle
Separate each side into 2 sections
You now have 4 sections
Create 5 two strand twists per section
Do each twist until you cannot twist anymore
You can easily see the frayed ends on your twists.
Cut those ends with hair cutting shears

Do your hair treatments, heat straightening, protein treatments or color on these dates, for the best results.

Should you Co-wash or not?

TWO TYPES OF CO WASHING

1.  Cleansing your hair  with a cheap conditioner

2.  Cleansing your hair by using a formulated cleansing conditioner or co wash

CO WASHING became very popular within the Natural Hair community around 10 years ago. Due to the drying effect of shampoo. Not long ago, most of the shampoos on the shelves were full of sulfates. Naturals became hugely aware that sulfates are extremely damaging to Afro coily hair. This made the technique of co washing the route to take. Co washing consists of replacing your shampoo with a cheap conditioner. You then would "cleanse" with the conditioner, forgoing the drying, damaging shampoo.

THE PROBLEM WITH CO WASHING

The problem is that, conditioners do not remove, germs, old product or microbes from your hair. So all of that sits on your hair week after week, eventually clogging your hair follicles. When the hair roots are filled with products, excess sebum and microbes your hair growth slows or it falls out.

Today you can easily find a non sulfate shampoo on the shelf. So co washing with a conditioner is no longer necessary. Co washing with a conditioner should never be used to replace shampoo. Conditioners are formulated to be applied to hair after cleansing. Not as a cleanser

If you want to co wash to refresh a wash and go that is good. But it should not be used for cleansing. Because conditioners do not cleanse properly.

CONDITIONING CLEANSERS

FORMULATED CO WASHES

Lots of naturals find good benefits from using a conditioning cleanser instead of shampoo. Conditioning cleansers, will state that on the bottle. It is a product that contains cleansers in it. This is okay to use. Many times naturals use the term co washing to describe both forms. It is hard to know which type of co washing one is referring to. Some products are labeled co wash. Whether it states co wash or conditioning cleanser, it will contain some type of cleansing agent. That is what you should look for, if you decide to co wash.

Today most shampoos are sulfate free. So co washing with a cheap conditioner is no longer needed.

Step one to faster hair growth.

The first step to improving hair growth is to wash and condition it more. The Coily Queens regimens requires twice a week cleansing and conditioning. You might ask, is that to much? If your skin was breaking out or not clear. Then someone recommended that you cleanse it better and condition it more. You would not hesitate. Yet the thought of you as a black woman washing your hair twice a week gives you pause.

HAIR GROWS BEST ON A CLEAN SCALP

Fact is, our hair can withstand water, cleansing and conditioning. What hurts it is cleaning it with the wrong products. Afro hair is not some weak fiber that cannot be manipulated with care. Many women think their hair grows slow and contribute it to genetics. When it is most likely growing slow due to clogged hair roots. Daily hair gets: germs, microbes, excess sebum, product buildup and more on it. Just think of what has accumulated on your scalp when you wait two weeks to clean it. Germs, many times, are invisible.

If you were to see your scalp magnified, you would be surprised about all the build up

CLEANSING WITH THE RIGHT PRODUCTS

Stay away from sulfates. Sulfates cause hair loss

Stay away from shampoos which contain a lot of ingredients with long names you cannot pronounce.

Look for non sulfate shampoos with close to natural ingredients.

Replace your shampoo with bentonite or red clay

Make your own shampoo from black soap

CONDITIONING

Cleansing should involve some type of conditioning.

Choose conditioners with close to natural ingredients as possible for you.

Conditioning helps to restore the pH balance to the hair.
