Her first 30 days on the Coily Queens Regimen

Ms. Allen contacted me via FB and explained the issues she was having with her hair. She was having a bad issue with extra dry hair.  I introduced her to the Coily Queens Regimen.

She was having issues with really dry hair, dull hair and curl definition.  We did talk about hydration requiring some time to increase with the hair. We also spoke about how challenging gray hair can be at times. I wrote her a moisture plan and product recommendations. She implemented the changes I recommended. Within one week her hair made a drastic positive turnaround.

What is the Coily Queens Regimen?
It is a regimen created to hydrate tightly coily hair. This is a hair lifestyle regimen. It is designed to save you time and money by making sure you are loving your hair on a daily basis. Following the regimen consistently will correct your dry hair, eliminate single strand knots, drastically reduce your tangles, shorten your shampoo days, increase hair growth, give you better length retention and MORE.

I would like to thank Patrice for joining the Coily Queens family. It will be a pleasure watching her crown grow and flourish. Check out her progress thus far!

The Coily Queen shampoo method for hydration

The Coily Queens Regimen is a lifestyle program for growing coily hair long and healthy. The regimen has a specific way of cleansing and conditioning. This is to ensure that your hair receives proper hydration.

Shampoo day is more than just cleansing the hair of germs. It is also the way to hydrate the hair. Properly hydrated hair creates the best twist outs, braid outs and wet sets. Hydrated hair also helps you retain the most length. If your hair root is alive, this regimen will reap you mid back length, waist length and up to hip length hair.

This process should be used in combination with the rest of the Coily Queens program, in order to achieve long, healthy hair.

Products needed
A non sulphate shampoo
Organic apple cider vinegar
Deep conditioner
A natural leave in conditioner

Step one: Allow medium temp water to run over hair for 1 to 3 minutes. With hair under water massage your scalp, then smooth fingers over your hair in a downward motion. Saturate hair well.

Shampoo hair is big twists, if  you have excessive tangles

Step two:
Apply shampoo to hair and cleanse. Cleanse hair in sections. Hold the ends of each section as you massage the scalp with the other hand. Rinse lather again and rinse.

IF YOU NEED TO DO ANY TYPE OF TREATMENT INSERT IT AT THIS STEP

Step three: Deep condition or condition hair. Sit under a heating cap, hooded dryer or steamer. Rinse out conditioner with cool or room temp water. (Do not towel dry or remove water)
Step four:  Fully saturate hair with all of ACV rinse.  Let it sit on hair for 3 minutes, then rinse with cool water. (Do not towel dry or remove water)

Your hair conditioning plan

Your hair care products should consist of moisturizing and strengthening ingredients.

A hair conditioning plan is greatly recommended for those who desire to grow their hair to bra strap length and beyond.

Growing your hair beyond mid back length requires using protein treatments correctly and consistently. Protein is what gives your hair strands extra reinforcement to not snap or break so easily.

More information about protein treatments HERE

Here are 2 examples of  hair conditioning plans for different hair lifestyles.

Understand that your hair conditioning plan greatly depends on the current condition of your hair and your hair lifestyle

NATURAL QUEEN ZURI

Her hair stats:
  • Curl type 4
  • Mid back length
  • Fully natural for 3 years
  • Her hair stays moisturized for at least 3 or more days.
  • Flat irons her hair about 3 times per year
  • Follows the CoilyQueens Hair care Method

Zuri's Hair Conditioning Plan:
She will need a regular high quality protein treatment once per month. A good moisturizing regimen must be combined with the strong protein.  Three reasons why she needs a strong protein treatment.

1. Her hair is long and she wants to retain it.
2. She desires to grow her hair to waist length.
3. She  heat straightens her hair.

How her plan looks on paper and recommended products

EXPLANATION OF HER PLAN
Because a hard protein treatment is recommended, the conditioners Zuri uses are low on protein.  She will concentrate on using moisturizing conditioners. The deep conditioner, regular conditioner and leave in conditioners chosen for her are either protein free or low in proteins. She is getting plenty or protein from the aphogee 2 step treatment. The TGIN triple (no protein) moisture conditioner,  helps to restore her moisture after she uses the aphogee protein treatment. She will baggy for 3 nights when she uses the aphogee 2 step once per month. The As I am hydration elation is her low protein weekly quick conditioner. She will hot oil treat her hair twice a month. The hot oil is done after deep conditioning. This will help combat her use of harsh heat.

She will rotate these products. Aphogee 2 step once per month. The TGIN triple moisture conditioner, once per week. The As I am hydration elation once per week. Leave in daily or as needed. Hot oil treatment every other week and after heat straightening.

NATURAL QUEEN ANYELINA

Anyelina's hair stats:

  • Thick hair
  • Curl type 4ab
  • Natural 3 years
  • No heat
  • Wants to grow her hair to its fullest potential.
  • Uses the CoilyQueens Method

EXPLANATION OF HER PLAN
A mild protein treatment is recommended to help keep her hair consistently strong. This will enable her to retain most of her growth each month. She does not heat straighten, so a hard protein treatment is not needed. She will use the protein reconstructor once every two weeks. She conditions once a week with a moisturizing DC then conditions with a protein DC once per week. The Mielle is a good protein conditioner while the hydration elation is a mild protein but deeply moisturizing DC. She is deep conditioning twice a week to keep her very thick hair easy to manage and style. If she continues this conditioning plan along with the CoilyQueens Regimen she will be able to grow and retain hair down her back.

How to create better twist outs

The twist out is probably the most popular style for naturals.  No matter your curl pattern, the hunt for the perfect twist out is always on. Some people get lucky the first time they create their twist out. But for most naturals it takes several attempts in order to get a desired twist out style. To perfect it takes even longer. But it does not have to be all trial and error. Here are some very helpful tips to help your achieve your best twist out.

12 TIPS FOR BETTER TWIST OUTS

1.  Healthy hair styles the best. Work on the health of your hair first before trying to perfect your twist out. This is very important for new naturals. Trying to create great looking styles on hair that does not retain moisture well, can be very deflating to your natural hair joy.

Need a good regimen to whip your hair into better shape?
Start today on the Coily Queens Regimen

2. Find a great style product. You want a product to give you hold and moisture, without flaking. Start with a style cream. Here are some winners: As I am double butter cream, SM curl enhancing smoothie, Camille Rose Curlaide, Camille Rose Almond Jai butter, Jane Carter's curling curl cream.

3. For better hold combine a style cream with a gel. Be aware of products conflicting with one another and causing white balls. Mix your two products on the back of your hand, to test and see if they ball up and clump. If it does so, on the back of your hand then that combination is not a good one. Try another combo. Good gels for natural hair especially 4C hair: Kinky curly curling custard, Eco olive oil gel, Miss Jessie's Curly Custard.

4. During cold weather, seal your twist out with coconut oil. It will help your hair hold its shape longer.

5. Instead of single two strand twists, create small to medium flat twists. You get way more volume per flat twist, than you will with the same size section of a regular two strand twist. Your first night sections should be 2 inches by 3 inch sections, flat twisted.

6. For a fuller look, end your twists with a bantu knot or use a flexi rod. This gives your twist out more flavor and fullness.

7. Flat twists also give you more stretch, this gives you more hang time.

8. Gain more hang time, by not using a water based product after the third day of  your twist out. You will need  moisture for day one and two, but if you have healthy hair your should be able to retwist with a non water based product. Here are some suggestions: As I am double butter cream (has water but it still gives you stretch), Regular shea butter.

9. On day one of your twist out, after you have set your hair, seal your hair with a cold water rinse. This will give you great definition. You can also seal with half aloe vera juice and half filtered water. Put mixture in fridge and let it get really cold. The cold and aloe vera helps to flatten the hair cuticle. The gives you more definition and hold.

10. For more stretch, reduce your product use in half. Less product equals less shrinkage.

11. Allow your hair to air dry in large braids at least 75%, then create your two strand twists. This will give you way more hang time.

12. Afro hair is like memory foam. The more you shape it into a style the better it will form that shape. So do not try a style once or twice then become frustrated. Continue to do that style over and over for a few weeks. Each time your hair will twist better and better. You will also find you can create the style faster.

Supporting black owned beauty brands and hair sites on your natural hair journey

The median salary for black in the USA is lower than any other group. According to an article by Yahoo News the median wealth for whites is $142,000 compared to $11,000 for blacks. Yahoo News

Knowing this  you should understand how important it is that we support black owned hair businesses, black beauty brands, black youtubbers and black owned hair care websites. Yet we are promoting, sometimes unknowingly, websites which feature black hair yet they are not black owned.

Surely on your Afro hair journey you would want to give your most support to those brands which put your hair and beauty first, not second. Some of you would be surprised at the brands we promote that are not black owned. It does not make sense $$$ to popularize non black owned hair sites and dismiss your hard working black sisters hair site. No other groups does this besides us.

It is your black sister who has helped you the most on this natural hair journey, so let her know you appreciate that help. Let's support and uplift black owned brands and websites more than we currently are doing.

Sites you often frequent and promote that are not black owned.

Naturallycurly.com is a popular shared website that is NOT black owned.

THE CURLY GIRL METHOD BOOK WAS NOT WRITTEN FOR AFRO CURLY HAIR.

Informative very helpful hair sites that are black owned:

Black owned shea butter sellers:

Black owned Red Palm oil supplier:

Popular brands that are NOT black owned

IT IS YOUR MONEY YOU CAN SPEND IT WITH WHOM YOU CHOOSE. THIS INFORMATION IS FOR THOSE WHO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF TO WHOM YOU GIVE YOUR MONEY. THIS INFORMATION IS FOR THE BLACK WOMEN WHO FIND IT IMPORTANT TO SUPPORT AND UPLIFT BLACK BUSINESS OWNERS. THEY NEED YOUR SUPPORT AND WE NEED EACH OTHER.

My everyday soft hold twist out

Set a length goal.

Find a good hair care regimen that suits your lifestyle
Decide on a hair care regimen that will help you achieve your length goals. When choosing a regimen consider your present lifestyle and how much time you will need to set aside for this plan. A good hair care regimen covers 3 areas well, moisture, stimulation and protection. The Coily Queens Regimen covers these three areas very well. Keep a hair journal
Always have a written plan and records of your daily achievements. Write your goals out so you can see them. Know your starting length so you can track your progress. Progress fuels your motivation.

Stay loyal to your regimen

A double minded person never achieves much of anything. Once you commit to a hair care regimen stay loyal to it, as long as it is working. It usually takes months to see big results from any hair regimen. Certainly when you are going for long lengths it take 3 to 6 months to see length accumulation. To many people switch regimens simply because something else sounds good. That is an premature move. Stay loyal to your decision.

Enjoy your hair
Yes you can grow your hair without using fake hair. If you want to use fake hair that is an option for you but it is not a requirement. Enjoy your hair. We are always more successful when we are happy. Rocking your own hair makes you happy. Create a style plan. Designate specific days to let your hair down and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Don't be distracted by other regimens

Once you decide on a hair care regimen, it is good to take a break from hair forums, hair groups and website. Take a break so you are not distracted from other regimens which sound good and tempt you to try them instead of the one you have decided on. Having to many choices many times makes you doubt your first choice. Make a decision, have faith in your choice and work your regimen.

When you reach your goal sit back, cruise and maintain your length.

Light press 2011

Maintain your length by following a good hair care regimen such as the Coily Queens Regimen. You will not retain length without a good hair care regimen. Sometimes the retaining can be more difficult than the growing. Have fun and enjoy your hair. But practice correct styling methods and product usage. The Coily Queens Regimen gives you all the information you need on buying the right products and minimizing breakage. Start it today. Click the link up top for the full Coily Queens Method.
long term and short term goals. Once you have reached your goal, create a new one.Set a plan to maintain your length, do not abandon your regimen just because you have attained your goal.
