Summer time hair care and protection

Spring time is here and Summer is around the corner. As the weather gets hotter and as we spend more time outside. We must take extra care when being outside in the sun for long periods. The same way we wear shades for eye protection and sunscreen for skin protection, we need products for hair protection.

Summer is a great time to rock a fabulous head wrap or stylist hat. Invest in 1 or 2 stylish hats to protect your hair from long term exposure to the sun. Visit your local fabric store and make your own head wraps. Beautiful African Headwraps

OMEGA 369 OIL BLEND
Walnut oil (inflammation, fights fungus)
Flaxseed oil (scalp balancer, inflammation)
Sunflower seed oil (stimulant, strength, sun protection)
Mix one ounce of each oil together.
Store in a dark color glass bottle.
Measure out 1 tablespoon.
Massage oil onto scalp for ten minutes.
Smooth oil completely over each hair strand.
Every other day, 3 times per week.

The key to a successful oil blend is using high quality oils. If you use cheaply made oils you will not reap the awesome benefits, your hair will just be lubricated and glossy. You want your oils to act as nourishment for the scalp and help to heal and protect your hair. Purchase cold pressed, unrefined oils. Coconut oil adds strength to the hair strands, prevents bacteria build up and is anti fungal. Sunflower see oil gives you sun protection. EVOO clears the overproduction of DHT on the scalp. Massage this blend onto your scalp for ten minutes then smooth oil over each hair strand. Do this every other day for awesome benefits. Sunflower oil needs to be used within 3 months of opening, so do not let your blend go rancid.

3 ounces unrefined sunflower seed oil
2 ounces cold pressed coconut oil
2 ounces EVOO
Apply 1 to 2 tablespoons onto scalp/hair every other day

Give your hair a healthy dose of vitamin D, by relaxing in the sun for ten to 20 minutes. The sun enables the body to produce vitamin D and this stimulates hair growth.  Melanin thrives from the sun. Be smart wear a sunscreen and do not sit in it to long. Find a comfortable warm place to sun bathe. Black people we run from the sun and this is a problem because the sun gives us power beyond what we truly understand. Do your own research on the sun rays and black people. The research will intrigue you.

SUN PUFFING IT!
Put your hair to the highest point on your head. You can do a top knot or even better a high PUFF!  Finish off your shampoo spa day by allowing your hair to air dry under the warm sun. Grab you some sun tea, ice cream cone or a good book. Then sun puff it for ten to 20 minutes.

I sun puff it around noon for 20 minutes daily. I sun puff not just for hair growth, but because I work from home and do not get out a lot.  Surprisingly lots of women are low on vitamin D.  The sun protects us from diabetes, cancer, depression and much more. If your energy is low, ask your doctor to check your vitamin D levels. Remember start off low and work up towards spending more time in the sun. This is how I do it, decide what is right for you. Remember that some medications you take will tell you to not be in the sun for long periods. Ten to 20 minutes is not considered a long period, just my opinion. You get more than that on a day at the beach.

Building your hair care regimen

READ PART ONE TO BUILDING YOUR REGIMEN HERE

The basic products you need in your regimen

     h.  Liquid leave ins
     i.   Lotion/cream leave in conditioner
     j.   Pomades/butters (contain no water)

4. A good quality singular oil
    k.   EVOO
    l.    Cold pressed avocado oil
    m.  Cold pressed coconut oil
    n.   Jojoba oil
    o.   Grape seed oil

To start your regimen you only need one product out of each category, in the beginning. Once you get started with your first 4 products, then you want to build on those products.

BUILDING YOUR PRODUCT STASH

The CoilyQueens Regimen recommends having, 3 of each recommended product. This means 3 cleansers, 3 conditioners, 3 leave in conditioners and 3 different types of oils you love. You do not  want, to depend on one brand of cleanser or conditioner. To often your favorite conditioner will stop working as well as it did in the beginning. Sometimes companies change formulas. You can also develop an allergy towards a product that was okay in the beginning. So if you have more than one cleanser and conditioner, that works for you. You do not have to worry about being caught without having a product that works.

Before you shop remember these tips.
1. Only use non sulfate shampoos
2. Get in the habit of reading the ingredients before you buy.
3. Starting out purchase the same brand of cleansers and conditioners.
4. Shop with companies who stand behind their brands. Keep your receipt so you can return it, if after one use it does not meet your liking.
5. If you are on a budget, save most of your money, for a good quality leave in conditioner. The leave in conditioner/moisturizer is your most important product. READ MORE ABOUT IT HERE
6. Spend your money on good quality oils, from the health food store, grocery store. Be sure they are unrefined or cold pressed.

Hair care tips for black children

CLEANSING, CONDITIONING AND SCALP CARE

Hair grooming should not be a difficult task for you or your child. When the process of cleansing and styling is difficult  it creates a very unpleasant experience for your child. This starts a cycle of your child not wanting to get their hair done.

1. Wash her hair once a week.  Hair grows best on a clean scalp. Washing the hair also is the best way to hydrate the hair. You want to keep away all bad bacteria and fungus

2. Invest in a non sulfate shampoo and conditioner. Choose products close to natural. It is best to use products from the same product line.

3. Always do a regular conditioning treatment after each shampoo. Regular conditioner is when you apply the product, let it sit from 3 to 5 minutes and rinse out.

4. Blot hair with t-shirt material and not a towel.

5. After rinsing our your regular conditioner, with hair still soaking wet. Do a final rinse with aloe vera water. This is 1/2 cup of aloe vera juice + 1/2 cup of filtered water, pour all of it over her hair and let it soak in. Leave on hair do not rinse off.

6. With hair still soaking wet from the aloe vera rinse, apply a leave in conditioner.

7. Purchase a leave in conditioner that contains a high amount of glycerin. Glycerin is a great humectant and it keeps the hair moisturized longer.

Great leave in conditioner

8. Always seal with either: avocado oil, castor oil or jojoba oil. This will keep your hair moisturized longer.

9. Styling the hair in braids, twists or small ponytails will help the hair style moisturized longer.

10. Do not forget to oil the scalp with a good quality cold pressed all natural oil

Coconut Hair Care

The coconut  is an amazing fruit. On top of its amazing health benefits it is one of the best treats for your hair. The best way to use coconut in your hair care is by using it in a cold pressed oil form. It is also beneficial in the form of juice, cream or milk.

HAIR GROWTH FORMULA
PRE-SHAMPOO TREATMENT HELPS DETANGLE AND PROTECT HAIR FROM BREAKAGE DURING SHAMPOOING

Coconut oil is part of a select few oil that penetrate the hair shaft. While most oils sit on top of the hair, coconut oil penetrates into the hair shaft by 50%. It contains lauric acid. Lauric acid has a low molecular weight, so it can infuse the hair strands. This gives your hair strands extra strength to better withstand damage from combing or brushing. Broken spaces on your hair strands are filled in and this keeps the hair from breaking so easily.

In order to receive the strengthening benefits of the coconut oil, it must sit on your hair for 16 plus hours. If you are using coconut oil for protection against hydral fatigue or breakage, it is best to lubricate your hair, cover with a plastic cap overnight for at least 16 hours.

Coconuts are full of fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. Great for deep conditioning. Apply to hair, cover with plastic conditioning cap under heat for 20 minutes.

Leave in conditioner/Braid spray

Regular use of cold pressed coconut oil will make your hair follicles healthy. It kills viruses and fungus on your scalp. Regular treatment of coconut oil strengthens your hair and gives it great sheen.

Use coconut oil on your school age child's hair. It repels lice and keeps the eggs from attaching to your hair follicles.

Detangling Afro coily hair

Tangles are the number one complaint of those with Afro coily hair. When you first go natural it is not uncommon to spend a whole hour untangling your hair. Having to spend so long on detangling, makes black women, not want to wash or restyle their hair often. However keeping the hair washed on a regular basis is the key to growing your hair to great lengths and creating great styles. This is the reason you want to greatly reduce your detangling time. The healthier your hair is, the easier it is to untangle. It is possible to untangle your hair in less than 15 minutes, even with tight coils and long length.

Following the CoilyQueens Regimen enables me to untangle my hair in 15 minutes. My shampoo time has been reduced by 70%

1. Never untangle hair when soaking wet
Always untangle hair while damp not while soaking wet.  Although soaking wet hair is soft and very flexible it is weak due to being filled with water. Dampen your hair with conditioner or a light mist of water. Let it sit on hair for 3 minutes, then gently untangle with your fingers.

2. If you want to retain long lengths untangle hair with your fingers. No combs!
If you keep your hair lubricated with a natural oil daily you will find finger combing really easy to do. The most important thing to know when finger combing is to take small sections. Do not treat it the same nor expect the same results compared to using a comb. In the beginning it will take you twice as long to finger comb compared to using a comb or brush. Soften hair with a conditioner, then untangle in small sections and you will be successful with finger combing. The more you do it the faster it will go!

3. Never detangle with a brush, tangle teaser or any product like it.
If you watch youtube you will see many naturals show demos  of untangling their hair using the very popular denman brush. Do not adopt this trend! Brushing the hair, weakens the hair cuticle over time. This makes the hair high porosity and susceptible to damage. The problem is that the damage does not happen quickly. It takes awhile for you to see the damage. Even so, know that each time you rake that brush through your hair you are weakening some of your protein bonds. When you rake it through soaking wet hair it is even worst. If you want to retain length, keep the brush out of your regimen. Fingers only!

4. Removing heavy tangles, matted hair and knots!
If you do not consistently follow a healthy hair regimen you can easily find your hair in a situation in which it will knot up and mat badly. You will get massive tangles which overwhelm you. Do not panic and start cutting or ripping out your hair. Remember people have untangled a full head of dread locs, so mostly likely your tangles can be removed with no damage.
Cold pressed castor oil

Solution #1: Mix 1 tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar, with 1 cup of filtered water, plus 2 tablespoons of grape seed oil. Put mix in a spray bottle and shake well. Spray hair down really good, using 3/4 cups of the mixture. Cover with a plastic cap for one hour. Go calm down, get some tea and take some deep breathes. After one hour untanlge hair using very small sections and take your time. Use the remaining 1/4 cup of your mixture to keep hair damp as you untangle it.

Solution #2: Mix 2 tablespoons of castor oil + 1 tablespoon of coconut oil + 1/4 cup or more of a thick conditioner of your choice. Cover with a -plastic conditioning cap + scarf overnight. If you do not have time for an overnight treatment. do it for 3 hours. If you do the treatment overnight your tangles will melt in the morning.

Untangle hair before you start the shampoo process always.

Why it takes you so long to detangle your hair

1.  You do not practice oil therapy

Oil Therapy is the process of massaging good quality specific oils onto your scalp and hair on a daily basis. This is an important part of the CoilyQueens Regimen

  • Choose from avocado oil, coconut oil, EVOO or castor oil.
  • Oils should be cold pressed, unrefined or virgin.
  • All suggested oils with the exception of castor oil are penetrating oils, they create no buildup.
  • Measure out 1 tablespoon of oil at a time.
  • Daily application of oils makes it easier to untangle you hair come wash day.
  • No need to pre-poo your hair because you hair is already lubricated

2.  Your hair is dehydrated

Hair strands are not properly holding in moisture

  • Dehydrated hair stays hard, requires moisturizer daily, does not hold definition well and breaks easily upon manipulation.
  • Dry hair forms single strand knots easily and tangles excessively.
  • Start a hydration regimen now to correct this issue

Two highly effective moisture treatments

3.  You expect Afro curly hair to be 100% tangle free!

  • Your hair does not have to be untangled completely
  • Type 4 Afro hair can rarely be combed through without curls being intertwined.
  • Styles such as two strand twists and braids can be achieved without completely untangling the hair.
  • A comb does not always have to glide through your Afro hair, especially when it is shoulder length or longer.

imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
Make changes today so you can enjoy easier untangling sessions and shorter shampoo times. Following the CoilyQueens Regimen consistently  reaps you shorter detangling times. Untangling, cleansing and deep conditioning should not take longer than 1.5 hours.

Hair regimen for those with excessive tangles

Does your hair tangle excessively no matter what you do to it?

Do you constantly have to deal with single strand knots?

Does your hair develop tangles within minutes of you untangling it?

So you spend an hour or two untangling your hair and twisting it up then when you remove the twists the next day your hair is tangled again!

Is your hair journey being hindered by excessive tangles?

If any of these questions or situations apply to your hair, this regimen will help get you on the way to healthier hair. Excessive tangles and single strand knots come from hair that is not properly moisturized or lubricated. Do not accept the incorrect information that Afro coily hair tangles a lot that is its nature. While our coily curly hair does tangle, it should not tangle excessively nor should it continuously get single strand knots. So do not accept that untruth. If your hair is properly hydrated and lubricated you will not develop tangles within minutes of untangling your who head. You will find help here, the regimen below will greatly decrease your tangles and eliminate single strand knots, once the regimen is followed for 18 days.. Everyday on the regimen, the hair becomes softer and supple, with the first improvements  within 5 days of starting this regimen..

When you have repeated the regimen the second time you should notice drastic improvement in your hair. Now  start doing the Coily Queens regimen which puts you back with washing your hair with a non sulfate shampoo or conditioning cleanser. You will now do clay washes once per month. Now you have a complete regimen that eliminates knots, decreases your tangles and increases the hair growth rate.

2-strand twist out

Important: When you mix the clay powder, do not use any type of metal, so mix in a plastic bowl with a wooden spoon. Metal destroys the minerals which are in the clay. You want the clay wash to be a thick creamy consistency, not to runny otherwise it will be messy.

Single Strand Knots!

You can prevent single strand knots from forming!

If you are natural, stretching your relaxer or transitioning from relaxed to natural, then more likely than not you are dealing with tangles, these tangles lead to single strand knots. Now I have seen many natural gurus say that tightly coily hair or type 4 hair is just prone to tangles and knots. That is just the nature of tightly coily hair. That is not true! Tangles and knots are the result of dehydrated hair. If you hair continues to be lacking moisture, then that hair will eventually snap and pop.

Prevention is always better than cure!

That being true,  the CoilyQueens Regimen, when followed on a regular basis, will eliminate your single strand knots and greatly reduce the amount of tangles you get. Just because your hair is tightly coily does not mean you have to deal with excess tangles and single strand knots. The CoilyQueens Regimen uses hydration and lubrication to eliminate your single strand knots and reduce your tangles.

As you can see with my tightly coily long hair one would think I deal with lots of tangles and single strand knots. But thanks to the CoilyQueens method my tangles have decreased and I rarely get a single strand knot. When I do, it is because I forgot to cover my hair at night.

Time to detangle!
Even after getting caught in the rain, when I went to fingercomb this out, it was not as tangled as it might look. The CoilyQueens Regimen made it easier to untangle  my twist out that
got rained out, lol.

So what is the secret to preventing single strand knots???

You apply a natural penetrating oil to your hair daily.
Recommended oil for daily use: extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil or coconut oil
Start with 1 tablespoon and massage oil onto your scalp first.
Massage for 10 minutes to stimulate better hair growth.
When massage is done, smooth the oil throughout the length of  you hair strands.
That is it! Good-bye single strand knots after 7 days of oil therapy.

Healthy lubricated hair handled properly does not get single strand knots.
Dry hair gets single strand knots and tangles easily.
This regimen makes your wash day shorter because there is no need to pre-poo.
You lubricated hair is easy to untangle on shampoo day.

Oil therapy the solution to single strand knots was discovered by CoilyQueensRock.com. This is the only website you will see promote this solution for single strand knots. I discovered this while experimenting with my love of natural oils, so if you read this solution anywhere else they copied me and should give CoilyQueensRock.com credit.

The CoilyQueens Regimen greatly decreases your tangles when you practice oiling daily as recommended. I have followed this regimen for 3 years and my hair rarely gets a single strand knots because I have fewer tangles. If I do get a knot it is easy to untangle with no damage, because my hair is well lubricated and strong. Try the CoilyQueens Regimen today you will not regret it!

Hydration + Lubrication = no more single strand knots

This regimen is great for transitioners also, although I am mostly natural, as you can see from the above picture my bang area has some relaxer on it. About 4 years ago I was wearing a curly sew in so I relaxed the bang area of my hair so it could blend in. I am so glad I did not relax my entire head. I have to give this small area of hair, extra care because of the two textures. The CoilyQueens Regimen makes it easy to untangle when I do get tangles. Because of the lubrication,  I can easily pull them apart with my fingers. I do not have to resort to cutting the knots out. Some might say well, why not just cut your bangs. Well this picture was taken in 2011, so I have cut a small part of my bangs, but I still have some left because it was a large bang. Also because I took care of it so well, I experienced no breakage, you can tell from the picture how healthy it still looks regardless of the relaxer still being there. So because it has not interfered with my daily styling and it is not breaking, I chose not to cut it. The CoilyQueens Regimen has enabled me to not have breakage. This will work out great for long term transitioners.

Start the CoilyQueens Regimen today!

Watch your hair transform!
