Great working and affordable hair growth vitamins

When going for long length, you want to add a hair vitamin or multi vitamin to your diet.  Most people do not receive all of the daily nutrients required. This is mostly due to consuming lots of fast food. This is also due to cooking food and depleting it of its nutrients.
This is a good quality supplement, that I have taken for several years. They work great and you can find them at most stores.

A hair vitamin helps your hair strands grow out strong. Strong hair does not break that easily. This enables you to keep hair on your head longer and reach your length goals.

Reach optimum hair growth each month, with hair vitamins!

If you only grow 1/8 or 1/4 of an inch per month, adding a hair growth vitamin to your regimen, can be greatly beneficial. Taking a good quality hair skin and nail vitamin, will make a big difference in how fast your hair grows.  A good supplement on a consistent basis can be a game changer for your hair journey.

LONG TERM RELATIONSHIP

Taking a hair vitamin for only one month is a waste of time and money. Your hair vitamin relationship should be long term. Be sure you are okay with the monthly price. Because you need to invest in a 3 months supply, of whichever vitamin you decide to purchase.

Here are some good quality hair skin and nail vitamins I recommend. Great performing at a decent price.

Applied Nutrition Hair skin and nail vitamins.

I feel my hair grows better and stronger with these. I also love that it is a liquid soft gel. Find these online, CVS or Target.

Black owned hair vitamins!

Growing your hair to waist length and beyond, requires the help of a good quality hair vitamin. It helps immensely to take a hair skin and nail vitamin, while on your hair growth journey. Cooking your foods with high heat, destroys the nutrients. A quality hair skin and nail supplement helps to makes up for those lost nutrients.

When beginning a new hair vitamin, purchase a 90 day supply. It takes 3 months to see the best hair growth results. Therefore, spend your dollars with black owned companies. It is important that we support those who support us. Support  black owned companies  who work hard to deliver us quality products. Those black companies who have respect for our hair.

If we support black owned businesses on a regular basis. We do not have to worry much about them being brought out by larger companies.

Here are 3 black owned hair companies that  sell good HSN vitamins. Measure your length in 3 places and write it on a calendar. Wait 40 then measure again. Keep track of your growth every 30 days. If you do not track your growth then you have no ideal how well it is working or not.

Do hair vitamins work?

I RECEIVED THIS QUESTION  ON FACEBOOK

"I am currently taking
Hair skin and nail vitamins, collagen,
Gelatin, garlic oil, and using regular castor oil sweet almond oil, shea butter and vics vapor rub in my hair and it's working. My hair is getting. Thicker but no length yet. Am I on the right track?"

WHAT MAKES HAIR THICK?
None of the items she mentions can make your hair thicker. Hair thickness is determined in the womb. We are born with a set amount of hair follicles. We can lose hair follicles but we cannot grow more. Hair thickness is also determined by how wide your individual hair strands are. The size of your hair strands and the number of hair follicles you have are established at birth based on genetics.

Let's breakdown what she is using

Hair vitamins
Vitamins do not give you larger strands or additional hair follicles. They do help feed the body nutrients, you might be lacking. By taking up the slack from your diet, vitamins make the hair grow better and stronger.
One of the vitamins I take. You can buy this HERE

Another vitamin I take. Buy HERE

Castor oil
Castor oil coats the hair and makes it appear to be thicker. So applying castor oil often for weeks builds up on the hair. Once you wash the castor oil off, you are left with your normal thickness. Castor oil is anti fungal. It prevents fungus and eliminates fungus off the scalp. Once that issue is removed the hair grows and flourishes. Keep in mind that you may not have a fungus. Cold pressed castor oil is still an excellent oil for the hair. It is an awesome conditioner for the hair.

Vick's vapor rub
This product is made up of petroleum. It also coats the hair and makes it "appear" thicker. However it cannot make your hair thicker. The clove, eucalyptus oils stimulate better blood flow and this leads to increased hair growth. It is possible that Vick's can also increase hair growth by eliminating certain scalp issues that hinder hair growth. I am not endorsing this product for hair growth. This is simply my response to her question.

Side note:
The properties of the Vick's healed my scalp quickly. I developed some scabs on my scalp. I could not pinpoint the cause of the scabs. I will say this happens to my scalp every few years or so. I decided to give the Vicks a go. The scabs cleared up within 3 days. quickly.

So why is she "only" seeing thickness with her hair growing regimen?

When Afro hair grows from the scalp it makes all the hair look thicker. She sees thickness due to the new growth. Since Afro hair grows curly, it grows up not down. Thus you will notice fullness before you notice length. You cannot have an increase in fullness without gaining new growth.

Tracking your growth to remain motivated
Would you like to know how well your growth aids are working? Before you begin, measure your hair in 3 areas. Use a tape measure. Note the condition of your hair, so you can have your hair in the same state when you measure for results.  Write the measurements on a calendar. Measure again in 40 days.  Continue to measure your length every 30 days. Tracking your growth will give you confidence to stay consistent with your journey.

Beginners tips to increasing your hair growth

Do you feel like your hair is growing slow?

Have you been on a hair journey for at least a year, yet you are not gaining much length? Are you not reaching your length goals? Here is a list of basic tips you should follow in order to increase your hair growth rate and retention.

Do not base your hair growth on anyone else but yourself. Never judge your hair journey based on another's journey. Hair grows on average 1/2 inch per month. Some people gain more and others less. In order to know whether your hair is truly growing slowly. You must know your HGR, hair growth rate. To learn how to determine your HRG, read here.

Full details on each tip BELOW!

HAIR GROWTH CHECKLIST FOR BEGINNERS

1. Cleansing your hair once a week.
Do you know that clogged hair follicles is one of the top causes for slow hair growth? Many think their hair naturally grows slow. In reality, it is their hair care habits, not genetics, that is keeping them from their length goals. Hair collects dirt, germs, pollutants and product build up on a daily basis. Hair grows best from a clean scalp. Cleanse your hair with a non sulfate shampoo, clay wash or formulated cleanser on a weekly basis. Never let all those germs lay on your scalp longer than a week.

2. Deep conditioning each time you wash your hair.
Deep conditioning helps to keep your hair soft and with less tangles. This makes the hair easier to manage. Well conditioned hair does not break easily. Less breakage means you retain more length and reach your hair goals faster. Deep condition using heat for at least 20 minutes.

Coily Queens deep conditioner recommendations:
Shea Moisture intensive manuka honey DC
Shea Moisture 10 n 1 conditioner masque
TGIN honey deep conditioner
Mielle Babassu deep conditioner
As I am hydration elation

3. Stop using combs and brushes.
Combs and brushes snap and break curly hair. Those tools might make styling easier but they are not necessarily needed to manage your curly hair. Stop using combs and brushes and you will see a big difference in 30 days. You will retain more length.

4. Detangle hair using fingers only.
Replace your combs and brushes with your fingers. Finger combing might take time to become use to, but the benefits will amaze you. Following all the tips here will give you healthy hair. Healthy hair is easy to finger detangle.
Finger combing tips.

5. Stop flat ironing, heat straightening and blow drying.
If you want to retain length and keep your hair hydrated, you must stop the direct heat. Direct heat includes: pressing, flat ironing, brush straighteners and blow dryers.

6. Massage scalp for ten minutes every other day.
The scalp is a muscle and muscles become stiff. Muscles thrive on stimulation. Take your time and massage for at least 10 minutes in order to reap the benefits. Massage stimulates better blood circulation. The blood carries the nutrients into the hair roots. This makes hair growth happen at the hair root. Massage, exercise and healthy eating, make hair growth happen.

7. Apply a stimulating oil blend onto scalp before each massage.
Stimulating oil blends greatly improves scalp circulation. When combined with massage it takes your stimulation to another level. Mix 3 to 7 drops of stimulating oil with one tablespoon of carrier oil. Smooth onto scalp with fingers and massage  for ten minutes.

8. Take a hair growth vitamin daily.
Most people do not receive the right amount of nutrients daily. When the body does not receive enough nutrients daily, many times, the hair being non vital will suffer. Supplements help to take up the slack, for what is lacking in one's diet. Thus taking the right hair growth supplement can keep your hair growth from being stagnant.

9. Drink 64 ounces of water daily.
The body is made up of mostly water. We lose water daily. Therefore we must replenish the body of water so that it works at its optimum level. Water helps the body to produce sebum. Sebum greatly keeps the hair in optimum condition.

10. Use a leave in conditioner, that contains all natural ingredients.
The leave in conditioner is the most important product in your regimen. This is the product that sits on your hair all day. It gives you continuous conditioning throughout the day. What goes on your hair will eventually seep into the scalp. Therefore you want healthy ingredients to seep into your body. You receive more moisturizing benefits when you use products that are as natural as possible.

Stay tuned for the advanced hair growth checklist. Before the advanced checklist tips can work, you must first be doing the above hair growth tips.

Help, my hair is growing slow!

PROBLEM:
I have been natural for 3 years. I shampoo once per week. My hair is growing, but it appears to be growing rather slowly, well below the average. I have seen women who have been natural for 1.5 years and they have really  good growth. What am I doing wrong???

SOLUTIONS:
Identify whether you are having a retention issue or growth problem.

Hair retention, how much of your hair growth each month are you able to hold onto. Your hair is growing at the average rate, however it is breaking off  due to various reasons.

Reasons for most hair breakage
Weak hair. your protein have been weakened, thus hair breaks easily. (breakage solution)
Dehydrated hair, due to long term lack of moisture. (dry hair solution)
Untangling hair improper (How to untangle hair properly)
Damaged hair cuticles due to using brushes, combs, flat irons and other heat tools. (heat damage)
Using bad ingredients which damage your hair.
Dry hair due to lack of cleansing and conditioning. (developing a good regimen)
Harsh chemicals such as hair dyes, texturizers and such. (moisturizing dyed hair)

Growth problem. The average rate of hair growth per month is .50 an inch. Some people receive less than this and that is slow hair growth.

Reasons for slow hair growth
Harsh ingredients (bad ingredients to look out for)
Vitamin and mineral  deficiencies (good HSN vitamins)
Scalp fungus (treating fungus)
Health issues and certain medications (health/hair loss)

Once you identify what is getting in the way of your growth or retention issue then you treat that area. For most people it is several areas, they must correct. Select the article next to your length blocker and start your corrective journey today.

After you have corrected your issue join one or my hair growth challenges to give your hair growth a much needed BOOST!!!

Growing Afro hair and retaining length

Hair grows on average 1/2 inch per month. Some sources state 1/4 an inch per month.    How is your hair growth? Which category do you fall under?

Until your hair root dies, your hair is always growing. How fast it grows depends on the health and diet of the individual. Genetics plays a role in hair growth. However genetics will not stop you from growing your hair to mid back length or waist length. Genetics are not the sole indicator of you reaching long lengths.

Find out more of what I think about genetics and hair growth here

Lots of women desire long, healthy, easy to style hair. Although most will not admit it, because they fear not achieving such a big goal as waist length or hip length hair. It is hard to aim for hip length hair when your hair has never grown passed shoulder length. Long hair is beautiful, versatile, youthful and sensual.

Where are you in your hair growth journey? Are you reaching your hair length goals? If not are you even setting length goals? Remember you have to set a goal first.

Set it, speak it, do the work and enjoy the manifestation.

Based on the average hair growth per month being 1/2 inch, here is an ideal as to where you should be length wise in your journey.

The 2 year hair growth journey
HAIR STATS:  Sapphire's  been natural for two years and she started out with a 2' Afro. She does not comb or brush her hair, she finger detangles. She does not use harsh heat, such as blow dryers or flat irons. She follows a healthy regimen on a regular basis. Therefore she only trims 1/4 inch every fourth month. This equals 1 inch per year.

Number of inches when you started                                    2
Years natural multiplied by AOG (2 X 6)                        +12
                                                                                    _________
Length before trim                                                             =14'
Trimmed 1 inch each year                                                    -1
                                                                                    _________
Hair growth in 2 years                                                = 13 inches

(Notice that she does not use harsh heat therefore her ends remain healthier and she retains more of her growth)

The 3 year hair growth journey
HAIR STATS: Violet started her natural hair journey 3 years ago. She started out with 4 inches of natural hair. She follows the CoilyQueens Regimen so her hair stays really healthy. She does flat iron her hair twice a year. That is the only time she uses a comb. She trims 1/2 inch every 4th month. She loses 2 inches per year to trims.

Number of inches at beginning of journey                            3
Years natural multiplied by 6 inches per year (3 X 6)     +18
                                                                                          _______
Length before trim                                                                =21'
Trimmed 2 inches per year (2 X 3)                                       -6
                                                                                         _______
Hair length in 3 years                                                    15 inches

Notice Violet has to trim more hair each year, because she chooses to flat iron her hair twice a year. The harsh heat leaves her ends frayed and split. If she did not use harsh heat she would be very close to waist length in 3 years.

How does your hair growth compare to Sapphire's or Violet's?

Insert your own numbers into the formula. What are your length stats?

4. Cleanse your hair twice a week.
Many people still think that washing the hair frequently will dry it out. That is not true. Washing your hair with the wrong kinds of cleansers will dry it out. Washing your hair with hard water will also dry it out. Do not be afraid of water. Your hair loves water. Daily you are collecting lots of germs on your hair, so you need a consistent wash routine. Choose cleansers, that have no sulfates or harsh detergents in them. My top picks  for Afro hair are.

5. Flaxseed oil
Our scalp secretes its own oil called sebum. Your sebum production is based on your health, diet and the product you use on your hair. Flaxseed taken as a supplement is known to help increase our sebum production. So those who have extra dry hair naturally would greatly benefit from taking 3000mg of flax seed daily. Be sure to consult your doctor before taking any supplements.
